- About SimpleTime™
-
- SimpleTime is a small, and powerful clock application. It is designed to supplement the Menubar
- clock by providing the the ability to switch between 30 different time zones. SimpleTime also
- complements Kaleidoscope and Aaron by allowing the user to change the default colors.
-
- Users who might find SimpleTime useful would include:
-
- - Users who arrange online chats
- - Users who do business world-wide.
- - Business travelers
- - Relatives living in different time zones
- - etc.

- User Guide
-
- To use SimpleTime, simply launch the program like you would any other, SimpleTime will
- automatically create a clock window at startup. The clock window uses the colors, and style
- defined in the preference dialog. SimpleTime also restores the window position and time zone
- SimpleTime last used. You can change the time zone by simply choosing the desired time
- zone from the "Time Zone" menu.
-
- SimpleTime uses a special character to place SimpleTime at the bottom of the application menu.
- This keeps SimpleTime out of the way so to speak.
-
- Hint: To automatically launch SimpleTime at startup, make an alias and place it in the
- "Startup Items" folder in the "System Folder."
-
- If you have problems with time in different time zones, make sure your system is properly
- configured using either the "Map" or "Date & Time" control panels.
-
- One important note, the preference file may be locked, sys-admins will find this very useful for
- keeping systems in a common state. Too bad more programs aren't this flexible.
-
-
- Clock Window
-
- The clock window displays the desired date, time, and location. The "Large Clock" window
- displays the date, time, and location in one window. The "Mini Clock" window displays the
- date, the time, or the location. The user can cycle between the date, time, and location by
- clicking in the Mini Clock window.
-
-

- Clock Properties
-
- The "Large Clock" option displays the date, time, and time zone in one window. The large
- clock is the default look.
-
- The "Mini Clock" option displays either the date, the time, or the time zone in a smaller
- window. You can cycle through the information by clicking on the window. You can
- move the window by clicking and dragging the window to the new location. This option is
- ideal for users with small screens.
-
-
- Window Properties
-
- The "Window Properties" allow you to change the window and text color, an option Aaron
- or Kaleidoscope users should appreciate. To select a new color, click on the colored box to
- open the color picker.

- Daylight Savings
-
- A word about Daylight Savings Time, borrowed from "PhoneCodes/TimeZones" by
- <mross@antigone.com>.
-
- Daylight Savings Time is adopted by law or decree separately in each country of the world.
- Accurate information is very difficult to come by, and various sources differ considerably
- on the matter. A rule in italics indicates an unconfirmed source.
-
- One hour is ADDED when DST starts. One hour is SUBTRACTED when DST ends. Note
- that the "Spring forward/Fall back" mnemonic works ONLY for countries in the
- NORTHERN hemisphere!!!
-
- In the US and Canada, Daylight Savings operates from the first Sunday in April to the last
- Sunday in October.
-
- Because daylight savings times vary from country to country, SimpleTime leaves it up to the
- user to decide whether daylight savings time is in effect for the northern hemisphere or the
- southern hemisphere.
-
- Use "Observe Daylight Savings" to show the time using DLS if applicable. If this option is
- off, all times will be shown in "Standard Time."
-
- Use "Northern Daylight Savings" to enable daylight savings time for the Northern hemisphere,
- generally March - October.
-
- Use "Southern Daylight Savings" to enable daylight savings time for the Southern hemisphere,
- generally October - March.

- Other
-
- The "Use Infinity Windoid" option serves two purposes. First it provides backwards
- compatibility with earlier versions of System 7. Second, it provides a work-around for the
- System 7.5 and MacOS 8 toolbar window bug. This option is on by default.
-
- The "I have registered" option is for users who have paid the $5 shareware fee. It turns off the
- shareware screen at startup. If you have paid, thank you.
-
-
- About Box
-
- The "About Box" displays information about various operating parameters such as:
-
- Free Memory - The amount of free memory available to SimpleTime
- Application Version - The current SimpleTime version
- System Version - The current system version.
-
-
- Known Problems
-
- The "Large Clock" uses a system toolbar window for displaying the info. If the toolbar
- window is collapsed with WindowShade and the title of the window changes, strange things
- happen. Under System 7.5.x and System 7.6.x, the window dies and you are forced to quit or
- change to the "Mini Clock" and back. Under MacOS 8.0, the window redraws the frame in the
- open state even though it is collapsed. MacOS 8.0 does this for both the system toolbar window
- and the Infinity Windoid. Aaron and Kaleidoscope aren't affected by this problem. It is
- suggested you use the Infinity Windoid for the best operation.
